  • Reform: Transformation of roof into terrace
  • Location: Nerja, Málaga
  • Elements to be highlighted: Outdoor space with mountain and sea views

The project described in this post consisted of building a terrace where the roof of the house was previously located.

Half of the rooftop space was used to build a large terrace with views of the sea and mountains, which would increased its value considerably. The other half was used to build an outdoor kitchen and indoor office and bathroom.

To access the terrace, a custom-made wrought iron staircase was built:

Rectangular tiles were laid on the terrace which, together with the glass railing, give a very spacious feeling. As a decorative detail and to preserve privacy, a custom-built bamboo panel was placed on one side of the terrace:

Below is a wide shot of the exterior of the rooms that were built, making the most of the characteristics of the old roof:

On the left is the fully equipped outdoor kitchen. It has an electric shutter system for protection when not in use:

Inside we can see the modern attic office with LED lighting. The air conditioner is fully integrated into the design and has a decorative function with the outside featuring a painting:

A storage structure was created to store terrace accessories that are sensitive to sunlight and rain, such as cushions and blankets.

The same decor has been maintained in the bathroom, with just a few vintage touches added. The tile backdrop gives a special touch to the design. The marble sink has been placed on a piece of restored antique furniture.
